Bear N Mom Recipes - Gingerbread
Some recipes are know for being made at certain times of the year.
In the Fall, I remember the gingerbread that was put out for trick or treaters by one of our neighbors and I crave some with whipped cream. Yum!
Ingredients
- 2-1/4 cups sifted flour
- 1 teasponn ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup soft shortening, butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup dark molasses
- 1 cup buttermilk
How to Mix and Bake
Sift together flour, spices, soda and salt.
Cream shortening, sugar, egg for 2 minutes. Beat in molasses. Add flour mixture and milk alternately beating about 2-1/2 minutes only until smooth.
Turn into greased pan and bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or whipped cream cheese.
My Mom made this one
In our house, my Mom made this in a 9" square cake pan. She always lined her pans with wax paper so that it was easier to lift out the cake without breaking it and then she would peel off the wax paper.
