Fall Is Here, Time to Make Soup
When you hear the locust for the first time that is a sure sign that Fall will be here in about six weeks. Fall a time of beautiful landscapes of abundant colored leaves and the end of the growing season. Time to harvest those vegetables or visit the local Farmer's Market to start putting up those wintry delights that are so warming to the soul.
The weather has changed oh so slightly with cool mornings and evenings. The children are heading out to school and you are making oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast. That mean's it's time to pull out those soup recipes even though most children now eat their lunches at school.
In my day we ran home from school at lunch time to find a sandwich and a bowl of soup waiting for us.
Soup is a diverse part of your meal. You can serve soup first on your menu or use it as a hearty entree.
Soups can be started from stocks such as chicken or beef broths or they can be the hearty creamed soups.
Making your own stock can be achieved by making a nice roast in the crock pot and saving the juice that is left over.
Speaking of the crock pot, you can also make a hearty blend in the pot without using the stove and let it simmer all day giving you the desired blended taste..
What more can you ask for, a hearty soup served with a hunk of homemade bread and butter? It's the nectar of the gods and sure to warm you up on those cool evenings and well into the winter for those body warming lunches.
Again, as I stated in various recipes. Don't be in any hurry making soup. It takes time to blend those flavors and make a really delicious soup.
