Doing food reviews is personal to me and my tastes. I know that everyone is not going to agree with my opinions and that's okay!!

I specified Summer Fruit Salad because that is the time of the year when most fruits can be picked or purchased fresh. There is no one recipe for fruit salad because it is all a matter of taste and what fruits you like or don't like. I personally do not like berries of any type but that is because most of the raspberries and black berries have tiny seeds that get under my dentures and cause pain. For some reason I have never liked blueberry but this berry is my one son's favorite in a pie and I make it once in awhile just for him.

The following is my favorite summer fruit salad that I make from fresh fruit. I picked this combination because it is colorful and pleasing to they eye as well as healthy. Now, if you want to get past healthy you can serve this salad with a healthy serving of whipped cream on it. Yum.

watermelon cubes

1 cantaloupe cut away from the rind, seeds removed and cut into bite size chunks.

1/2 watermelon cut away from the rind and cut into bite size chunks. The more seeds you can remove the better but don't get ridiculous. This year I saw a small round watermelon at the Giant Eagle but have not had a chance to try it yet. You can also buy watermelon planks that are strips of watermelon prepackaged. This makes it easier to cube your melon.

1 honeydew cut away from the rind, seeds removed and cut into bite size chunks.

green grapes sliced in half

1/2 pound seedless green grapes (you can use the red but my preference is the green) I cut my grapes in half if I have too many of the other fruits and not enough grapes.

Bananas and Kiwi added to the salad

1 pound fresh stawberries with the stems removed and cut in half.

I cut all my fruit by hand over the bowl so that the juices all mingle with the fruits to give it that extra flavor.

My step-daughter is addicted to kiwi and when she is coming I add that to my fruit salad.

The very last ingredient for my fruit salad is a couple of bananas. I slice these and add them just before serving my fruit salad so that they don't turn brown.

You can cut peaches instead of cantaloupe or pared apples. You can buy apple slices at the supermarket and just have to remove the outer peel and chop into your salad. Apples are mostly used for Waldorf salad but can lend an added crunch to your fruit salad.

Your fruit salad is for your taste and should be a mingling of flavors that you prefer. For those of you who prefer citrus fruit you can add some orange pieces.
